General Questions
- What is MotionPortrait?
- MotionPortrait is the technology which can create a variety of facial animation from one single image. Please check "What is MotionPortrait?" to see more information.
- Wow! But how can I use it for?
- Possibilities are limitless. Please check "Solutions" page.
- How many pictures are used?
- Only one picture is used.
- Do I have to use a special camera?
- No. You can use a regular digital camera. You can even use a camera on mobile phone.
- This must be a video clip, right?
- No. This is a 100% computer generated image.
- How long does it take to create animation from taking picture?
- Normally, it takes only a few seconds on PC.
- Can I make an animation which make a model turn to the side or turn to the other way?
- It is possible to make it turn at some degree. You can see it naturally within ±20 degree empirically. Since we have no back image, the animation of back head looks unnatural.
- Can I make a model from non-human automatically?
- It is hard to recognize non-human models automatically, so the model will be created manually. After creating a model, animation is created automatically.
- I want to use it now.
- We are planning to offer a system that you can create MotionPortrait from any picture you like. Please wait for a little while.

- Yes. MotionPortrait, Inc. was founded by the members who had developed MotionPortrait at former Sony-Kihara Research Center.
Technical Questions
- What is minimum required PC spec?
- A machine with 1Ghz CPU is enough for animating in real-time. It should work reasonabely with even lower spec.
- How smoothly can it animate on mobile phone?
- We confirmed app. 30fps with graphic accelerator, 15fps without it.
- If I take a picture from side and use it, can I make a perfect 3D head model?
- Technically yes. However, MotionPortrait uses only one picture because of these reasons.
a: Taking multiple pictures takes more time.
b: Animation quality degrades when multiple images are used. - Can I make lip-sync automatically?
- Yes, possible. You can match lip movements with voice through microphone in real-time.
- I want to use it for game production.
